North Sydney Local Court

Represented by solicitor: Robert Hoyles

Facts: Our client’s partner was driving a car that was involved in a high speed police chase.  He later abandoned the car and asked his girlfriend to lie to police and tell them the car was stolen.  She did.  She later contacted police to tell them the truth.  She was charged with Public Mischief, which potentially can carry a gaol sentence.

Result:   Section 10.  No conviction, no penalty.  The Magistrate accepted our solicitor’s submissions that the circumstances were exceptional and that our client was unlikely to reoffend.
